The Chosen: Last Supper.

The Chosen: Last Supper. Part 1.

For the past three weeks during Lent I have went to watch The Chosen: Last Supper in Theatres. As a lifelong student of History and above all a Catholic Christian. I truly felt like I was transported to the moments and world when Jesus walked among us. What a beautiful gift of bringing the Holy Bible and the teachings of Christ alive in such a visual creative way.

The Chosen: Last Supper. Part 2.

As I sat in the theatre each week it was if my all my years of Practicing the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius which includes Imaginative Prayer had prepared me for this engaging representation in front of the screen. Seeing the theatrical representation of sacred faces, sights and scenes was humbling and holy to say the least. A transforming addition to otherwise intense reflection of this Lenten season.

One cannot help being moved by Jonathan Roumie’s performance as Jesus. He brings such depth and love. It is like a prayer itself when you watch him. It has helped me personally throughout all seasons dig deeper into my own heart to reconnect with the real Christ and the transcendent love he intimately carries for each one of us.

The Chosen: Last Supper. Part 3.

Spoiler alert: After seeing part 3 on Wednesday night, I drove home in Silence. It is still is on my heart this Good Friday morning and has be imprinted throughout this Blessed Triduum. The scenes of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane honestly left me speechless. One part that touched me to my core was when Jesus the second time found the Apostles asleep and the imagery of them as little children. We all our like little children fumbling through our humanity and Christ’s love is all we need. I know that is such a simplified version. But, sometimes that is just enough.

The ending scene of Jesus’s betrayal by Judas left me in deep sorrow. I have felt sorrow before, but this was a new kind of heartache and understanding that I take with me today on Good Friday and beyond.

In conclusion, as I mentioned so much in my writings lately. When you let Christ in Little by Little. He truly will move mountains in your heart. Seek him in the corners of your heart and you truly will be transformed in ways the world can’t.

Love, Cynthia

P.S. If you were not able to see The Chosen: Last Supper in the theatres it will be available on Amazon Prime in June.
