Bible in a year/Early World.

It is officially now Fall on the calendar, but down here in Austin, Texas it’s still summer. hot, hot, hot. But, my Day 1 of restarting Father Mike Schmitz’s Bible in the Year Podcast on my morning commute, it was unseasonably cooler. In the 80’s lol and when I arrived at work and parked, I was greeted by this drought tolerant (Texas talk) bush in bloom with brilliant color and a sea of bee’s buzzing around. It was a perfect companion piece to the account of Creation. Reminding me that God’s creation is all around us even in the smallest creatures. Little miracles that are so good and that we as Creatures ourselves created in His Likeness have a profound responsibility of care over them and our world. And that was just my Day 1 takeaway, pretty awesome.

Now on Day 18 as I write this… I am blown away by how leaning into learning/listening to God’s Holy Word is quite transformative. My approach is not of a Bible Scholar or even a Historian, I just let the words wash over me and allow the Word to just sit in my heart. It can be jarring some day’s, we are indeed broken people that Need God’s love. Father Mike’s reflection’s each day on the readings are priceless in making sense of Our Story or just sitting in prayer with the parts that do not. Like our friend Job… if you have done the Bible in the Year you know what I am talking about!

It is definitely a journey! I am so grateful for Father Mike, Jeff Cavin’s who created The Bible timeline series and Ascension Press. On a personal level having met Jeff and Father Mike it makes it even more special. They are such amazing souls to lead one through this Bible Journey.

If you have been wanting to begin The Bible in the Year Podcast, my advice is just do it. It doesn’t have to begin on Jan. 1st. I just was inspired to start it after wanting something to listen to on my new long commute, now it’s become such a sacred time for me and it helps me be more patient in Austin traffic:)

I use the Ascension Press new App to listen and keep track. I know it’s also available on the Hallow App as well. But, Ascension Press does have the accompanying text follow along or back and take note. I also love listening to Father Mike’s homilies too that our available as well.

I also did get the The Bible in the Year Companion- Volume 1, which is a great resource to reflect on and The Great Adventure Catholic Bible (Revised Standard Edition). This is the Bible that Father Mike reads Holy Scripture from and has great commentary on diving in deeper to each time period. Usually on my days off, I go back and read. But, again my approach is leaning in and not rigid. Allowing the Holy Spirit to guide me.

Thank you for letting me share my Bible in a Year journey with you. I will try to post when I reach each time period.

Love, Cynthia
